Monton Walkway
- Do you know what wildlife can be found around Monton Walkway?
- Are there any interesting historical facts associated with this former railway line?
If you have any information that could be added to an interpretation board we would like to hear from you.
Extending from Monton Road to the East Lancashire Road in Swinton this attractive footpath links together a number of green spaces whilst providing a valuable area for wildlife to thrive. Key locations along the route include:
- Quaker Bridge
- Monton Cricket Club
- Swinton Playing Fields.
Salford City Council is now planning on upgrading the stretch of walkway between Monton Road and Quaker Bridge. Proposals include repairing the existing tarmac surface, installing new footpath edges of either timber or stone setts, the addition of new park benches and motorbike barriers, removal of self-seeded Sycamore trees and an improved entrance area complete with finger-post signs and interpretation boards.
Outline proposals have been produced. If you would like to send us any comments or feedback about these improvements please contact us by no later than the 1st October 2007. Once all the comments have been received the proposal will be developed into a Sketch Scheme. This will be published on this page whilst the council seeks the necessary approvals to proceed with upgrading the walkway. Subject to approval it is hoped the works will begin next year.
