Commitment ceremonies
A Commitment Ceremony is a meaningful and dignified ceremony to enable adult couples of any sexual orientation to make a public declaration of life-long commitment, love and dedication.
Ceremonies are conducted by professionally trained celebrants and are purely ceremonial, they do not contain religious references and neither does the commitment ceremony, or any document issued as part of the ceremony, have any legal status. It is, however, an alternative to the traditional wedding ceremony for those who either cannot legally marry or who want something a little different.
Couples can share the occasion with family and friends if they wish, or the ceremony can be held with just the couple in attendance. Ceremonies are tailored to meet individual requirements by using words, poems or music that is significant to the couple.
There are many local authorities around the country providing facilities for Commitment Ceremonies (also referred to as Partnerships Registers), Salford City Council provides this service.
