Single parenting

Being a single parent can mean that you have the sole responsibility of bringing up your child orchildren. There may be times when you need a little help, advice or support and there are many organisations that can assist you:

  • Gingerbread offers lone parents and their children practical and emotional support
  • For information on child maintenance support, please visit the Child Support Agency
  • If you want to find work, help is available through the New Deal for Lone Parents programme
  • As a working lone parent you may be entitled to the Working Tax Credit or the Child Tax Credit. For further details and to apply online, visit the Inland Revenue
  • Information on maternity leave and benefits, social security benefits and entitlements can be found for parents on a low income at Directgov
