Listed buildings

There are 227 Listed Buildings in the city of Salford, as included on the National Heritage List for England.

During 2011 we reviewed how we monitored our heritage assets in the city. The number cited below is now reflective of the number of statutory Listed Building entries on the National Heritage List for England. Previous totals have included in-part counts of the number of buildings and structures that are covered by one entry on the List; for example, a terrace of buildings (e.g. 2, 4 and 6 Acton Square) can be covered by only one entry on the National Heritage List for England.

The actual number of properties, buildings and structures covered by list entries totals 352, comprising 6 Grade I, 17 Grade II* and 329 Grade II; this number accounts for where multiple addresses or structures are covered by one list entry.

The Salford Listed Building Register provides an address and a photograph for each list entry.

If you wish to undertake works or alterations to a listed building in a way that affects its character as a building of special interest you must first apply for Listed Building Consent; this includes works to the interior, as well as the exterior. Common works requiring consent might include the replacement of windows or doors, knocking down internal walls, painting over brickwork or altering fireplaces.
