Recent progress

Some progress has been made to improve the valley, with key recreation areas very close to this site that provide a good base to work from, such as Clifton Country Park.

Some badly contaminated sites have already been cleaned up, often at huge expense, such as the old Tar Ponds. A number of traditional environmental improvements have been carried out including footpath works, landscaping of the former sewage works, and a new footbridge has been built over the river linking Salford with ‘Prestwich Forest Park' in Bury.

However, the most recent success story is the fact that LIVIA have received funding under a government initiative called ‘Newlands'. The Forestry Commission provide further information about the full Newlands Programme.
