Short clip from Star Trek: The Next Generation follows
David Henry
- Presenter
Well
that’s how Sci Fi writers told us we would be comm. In the future well the future has arrived here in
Salford but it’s a bit more down to earth.
Mrs Briggs - customer
Ah I’ve got to ask you a question about the roads, Belgrave Road particularly
in Cadishead, it has developed yet another rather large hole.
David
Henry - Presenter
Using this technology, talk not to someone in outer space but
to an officer down the road at Swinton Civic Centre it’s the new high tech way of dealing with Salford
council.
Beryl Briggs - Customer
Well its
new ifs different if it works it will be brilliant its more direct than writing letters you know it’s
going to somebody and not lying in an in tray, its not getting lost. Yes it will be good especially
if they were in all the libraries you could contact from an area that is having problems.
Mark
- Customer Services Advice Team
It’s a web cam centre all you do when you come
for an interview is tap the screen with your finger and it puts a direct line to our offices at Swinton.
While we’re at Swinton we just click on and bring up a view of the people in the lib and from her ewe
can deal with all enquiries from Council Tax, Housing Benefit, Free School Meals and any other enquiry
in regard to the council.
Customer no 2

15 January.
Customer no 2

very much.
David Henry - Reporter
Well I’m
going to test the system now I’m at Cadishead library. I’m going to talk to Lynne Goslin who’s at the
council offices down the road in Swinton. Hello Lynne.
Lynne
- Customer Services Advice Team Manager
Hello David
David
Henry
How you doing
Lynne - Customer Services
Advice Team Manager
Ok how are you
David
Henry
Very well thank you can you just tell me a bit about the system please
Lynne
- Customer Services Advice Team Manager
It’s a Telly Talk system that we introduced
as you said you’re in Cadishead at the minute, that’s 14 miles away from Swinton. It’s a system we intro
for the customer so they can talk to us without having to travel the distances. We’ve got 3 other locations this one at Cadishead Library, one at Broughton Library, one at Broadwalk
and one at Hope Hospital in the plaza
David Henry
Ok
great and what kind of things can you do using Telly Talk
Lynne
– Customer Services Advice Team Manager
You can obviously have a conversation as were doing now, which I think people get more reassurance from seeing each other and
you know your getting your point across
David Henry
Well
the scheme here in Salford has been so successful other council’s are thinking of using it themselves so soon we could all be boldly going into the future using this
new modern technology. David Henry channel M news.
