Manchester is my Planet

Save your planet. Start with Salford. Take the climate change pledge.

All of us use energy. Boiling the kettle, driving to work, even leaving the TV on standby. All this energy use creates greenhouse gases and changes the world's climate.

Heard it all before...?

Climate change won't just affect countries in the developing world.

Flash flooding, soaring temperatures and violent storms will become increasingly common across Manchester and its surrounding boroughs.

So people who live and work across the Manchester city region - that's three million of us - have been joining together to make a pledge on climate change and save the planet: The initiative is called "Manchester Is My Planet".

"I pledge to play my part in reducing the city's greenhouse gas emmisions by 20 per cent by 2010, to help the UK meet its international committment on climate change."

Launched in September 2005, over 16,800 individual pledges have been made by local people, pledging to start making a real difference. Individual local authority areas such as Wigan, Stockport and Salford will see their pledges tracked so that in an instant visitors to the campaign website will be able to gauge who is ahead in the fight against climate change.

With your help, we want Salford to lead the way!

It's easy to pledge, simply visit the Manchester is my Planet campaign website. You'll also find information about why climate change matters for Salford, top ten tips on how to save energy and money and lots of downloads. Alternatively, you can text your pledge through - just send the word "pledge" and your postcode to 80010.

Start making changes in your home, in your neighbourhood and in your city. We're going to save the planet, starting with Salford!
