Red Rose Forest
Red Rose Forest is helping to transform a large part of Greater Manchester, including Salford, into a greener, better place to live, work and invest in.
By creating new areas of woodland, it will be a forest for the people: where people can enjoy their preferred form of recreation or sport, relax, socialise, and appreciate the wildlife which will flourish in the forest mosaic. It will provide a healthier environment for us all to live and work in.
It is one of twelve community forests being established in and around some of England's larger towns and cities, taking the countryside into the heart of the urban areas. The new Forest will have areas of attractive open spaces, water bodies, and recreational facilities - all within a framework of mixed woodland in the districts of Manchester, Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Trafford and Salford.
Many schemes have been started in Salford, as well as in surrounding areas, including Moat Hall Wood, New Madams Wood and Blackleach Country Park. Schemes are planned on both public and private land; many will be carried out by local volunteers or schoolchildren.
Businesses of all sizes have a lot to offer and also to gain by helping in the creation of this new type of forest. By planting trees on their land, businesses can improve their environment and provide greener, healthier conditions which will attract and retain employees. Trees and woods will also encourage and benefit shareholders and customers. The image of the area will be greatly improved and, therefore, the economic regeneration of the region will be encouraged, leading to increased inward investment.
All trees and woodlands planted will make a valuable contribution to the development of the forest as a whole. Financial assistance is available to help with the initial establishment and future management of areas of woodland.
