Meals Service
If you can't cook for yourself and there is no one to help you, we may be able to provide you with meals at home.
What is the meals service?
We will arrange a weekly delivery of frozen meals for you to heat up in a microwave oven as and when you want. There's a great choice of healthy, tasty and easy to prepare meals which you order every two weeks.
We will meet any particular dietary needs you have - if you are diabetic, vegetarian, halal or kosher for example.
We can also lend you a microwave oven and freezer if you need them. If you really cannot use the microwave, we may arrange hot meals to be delivered daily.
The hot meals service is also available to pregnant mothers who are nursing a child (under 5 years) and who cannot provide themselves with a daily hot meal.
Who provides the care?
The frozen meals service is provided by Flow Foods and the hot meals service is provided by the city council.
What should I expect?
Both meals services offer two courses - a main course and a dessert. Staff should agree with you an approximate delivery time for your meals so that you know when to be in and to expect your meal.
How can I get this service?
You will need to contact a social work team about the meals service and ask for an assessment. If we cannot arrange the service for you, we may suggest alternatives such as luncheon clubs or day care.
You can also buy home-delivered frozen meals directly from Flowfoods tel. 0845 606 3924.
Does the service cost?
There is a small charge of £2.15 per two course meal if we have agreed that you need the meals service. If you decide to buy directly from Flowfoods, you will need to speak to them directly about the cost.
If you need a microwave oven or freezer, we can lend you these at no cost.
