Short Breaks
Caring or being cared for can be very stressful and everyone deserves a break now and then. We may be able to arrange short breaks for people, to give both themselves and their carers time away from each other.
Carers
If you are caring for someone, we may be able to give you a break - perhaps for a holiday, some regular time off every week or month, or because you need hospital treatment. There are a number of different short break, or respite schemes.
Are you being cared for?
Short break schemes give you and anyone who cares for you, the opportunity to have time away from each other - which is often important for a strong, healthy relationship. We may be able to arrange a short break - perhaps for a holiday, some regular time off every week or month, or because your carer needs hospital treatment. There are a number of different short-break, or respite schemes.

How do I get a short-break?
You need to contact one of our offices and ask for an assessment of your needs. Some schemes are run by voluntary sector organisations and you may be able to contact these organisations directly.
Do short break schemes cost?
Most schemes do cost something. If they are part of a care package which we have arranged for you (written in a care plan), then the cost may be included in your charge. Otherwise, you may have to pay separately, whenever you use the short break.
