Children & families social work teams
If you or someone you know needs some extra help, then you should contact a social work team. You can also email us at social.services@salford.gov.uk.
Opening times
Our offices are open during normal office hours - 08.30 - 16.30. If you need to speak to a social worker outside these hours, contact the Emergency duty team. You may need to leave a message on the answerphone.
Who can get help from Social Services?
Social Work Services will be available to children and families who are having very significant problems getting on at home and children at risk. In these cases we try to support children to live at home but sometimes children have to be looked after by the Local Authority.
We have to make sure that the children and families in greatest need of help get our services. To make sure we do this fairly across the whole of Salford we use eligibility criteria. Eligibility criteria are the standards we use to decide who gets our services.
There are other children who may be a cause of worry to their parents, teachers or other professionals or people in the community who know them. The Community & Social Services Directorate cannot offer a direct service to many of these children and families but our Duty Officers will try to advise about other services which may be able to help.
A Social Worker will contact you to look at what help you may need and what can be offered. This is called an assessment. The Social Worker may also want to speak to other people such as your carer and GP. As the demand for services is greater than the services that we can offer, we cannot always provide everything that everyone wants. We have to prioritise services for those most in need. We have a set of standards for each service, called eligibility criteria which explain what we can offer to people with different levels of need.
