Children missing education

Children Missing from Education (CME)
How and why do children and young people go missing from education?
There are many reasons why children and young people fall out of the education system and are at risk of ‘going missing’, these range from failing to start in a new school or appropriate education provision to simply not re-registering at a new school when they move into the city.
As part of our multi-agency system to provide all children with an education, everyone including Primary Care Trust employees, school employees, housing officers or members of the public, form an important role in helping the council provide an education for all children and young people in Salford.
The Education and Inspections Act 2006 now places a new statutory duty on local authorities in England and Wales to make arrangements to identify children and young people of compulsory school age missing education within their area.
Therefore, if you are aware or you think a child and/or young person is missing from education (in whatever capacity), please make a referral.
If you want further information, you can download our Children Missing from Education policy - guidelines and procedures document.
