Final Warning
When a young person or child over the age of 10 commits a criminal offence and acknowledges their guilt, then providing the offence is not a serious one, and it is their first offence they will receive a reprimand at the police station and no further action will be taken.
If they then commit a further offence, and the offence is not a serious one, then they will receive a Final Warning. The warning will be given at the police station where the young person will also be given an appointment to attend the Youth Offending Team office within 5 working days of the warning. When the young person attends, an assessment will be carried using the ASSET assessment tool to determine the factors that may be behind the young person involving themselves in offending.
A programme plan is then agreed with the young person to address the factors identified in order to reduce the risk of offending. If the young person commits a further offence within a 2 year period, then the matter goes straight to court irrespective of the seriousness of the offence.
