Implementation of Court Orders
The Youth Offending Team is responsible for the supervision and implementation of nearly all orders imposed by the Youth Court on young people who have been convicted of a criminal offence. The court can also impose a Parenting Order on the parents of young offenders and this is also supervised by the Youth Offending Team. The Youth Court can impose the following orders on a young offender:
- Referral Order
- Reparation Order
- Action Plan Order
- Attendance Centre Order
- Supervision Order
- Community Punishment Order
- Community Rehabilitation Order
- Community Punishment and Rehabilitation Order
- Supervision Order with ISSP (Intensive Supervision and Surveillance)
- Detention and Training Order
Orders not supervised by the Youth Offending Team:
- Conditional Discharge
- Fine
- Compensation Order
- Curfew Order
The court also now has the power to impose an Anti Social Behaviour Order in criminal proceedings. The Youth Offending Team must supervise all orders it is responsible for to National Standards laid down by the Youth Justice Board, which stipulate minimum levels of contact throughout the course of the orders. The Youth Offending Team has a responsibility to consult with victims and to ensure that Young Offenders make reparation either directly to the victim or indirectly to the community for their misdemeanour. If the offender fails to comply with the order then the Youth Offending Team must return the young person to court for non- compliance.
