Befriending Schemes
Friendship can play a large part in staying independent and healthy at home.
Age Concern Salford and Voluntary Friends for Older People both run Befriending Schemes for people aged 60 years or more and can arrange for someone to visit you regularly for a chat and a cup of tea.
If you would like to find out more contact:
- Age Concern Salford on 0161-788 7300 or email: administrator@ageconcernsalford.org.uk.
- Voluntary Friends for Older People on 0161-772 3893 or email cath.riley@bstmht.nhs.uk
If you are not interested in these schemes, there are plenty of other ways of meeting new people and keeping yourself active mentally and physically. If you are not already a member of your local library, how about joining, or if you can't get out, then join the books@home service.
With your knowledge and experience, there may be some voluntary work that you could take part in, or perhaps you'd rather take up studying again - learn how to use the computer to email family who you don't see as often as you'd like.
You might even take up a new sport or exercise class - there is something for everyone, from healthy hips and hearts groups, through to kayaking at Salford Quays.
