Luncheon clubs
Luncheon clubs are a great way to get out of the house for a few hours, meet friends for a chat and get a filling, hot and healthy meal.
What is a luncheon club?
Luncheon clubs are run across the city, offering older people a chance to meet up with friends while having a good quality, hot meal at a very reasonable price. Luncheon clubs offer warmth and companionship.
Who runs luncheon clubs?
They are run by a number of different organisations, often subsidised by the city council - voluntary organisations, religious groups and community groups.
What should I expect?
If you have a special diet, you should contact your local luncheon club to find out if it can cater for you.
How can I get this service?
If you need some help getting to a luncheon club, the club may already know of help available. Otherwise, there are a number of transport organisations which you can contact.
Can anyone go to a luncheon club?
Most clubs have a minimum age and some have other rules about who can go. You will need to contact any that you are interested in. You may have to contact a Community, Health and Social Care office and ask for an assessment of your needs for some of the luncheon clubs.
Do luncheon clubs cost?
Yes - all luncheon clubs will charge a small amount for a hot meal. This is usually subsidised. You will need to speak to any clubs you are interested, to find out how much they cost.
