Planning services

One in five people living in Salford is 60 years old or more (census 2001) and it is vital that the right services, in the right place and at the right time, are available for older people.

In 2001 the Government published the National Service Framework for Older People which sets out how health and social care services for older people should be provided.

Well being is important to all of us and, working with older people, the NHS, voluntary and private sectors, we have produced Growing older IN Salford - a strategy for well being which sets out the key building blocks that will help older people achieve and maintain control in their own lives. The building blocks are

  • Tackling ageism
  • Information and access
  • Involvement
  • Inclusion
  • Measuring progress together

Help us improve services

There are many ways that you can help us make Salford an even better place to live for older people.

If you'd like to help us, you can speak to Paulette Holness, User Development Worker by telephone - 0161 603 4407 or by emailing paulette.holness@salford.gov.uk.

Salford Forum of Older People
has worked with the city council to help us 'ageproof' services - check to see if our services are providing older people with what they want. You can find out more about the forum by contacting Age Concern Salford - phone 0161 788 7300 or by emailing administrator@ageconcernsalford.org.uk.

Older People's Partnership Board
The main forum for decision making about health and social services for older people is the partnership board. There are representatives from the NHS, the city council, the voluntary sector and from older people groups on the partnership board. It meets about six times a year. If you would like to find out more about the partnership board, you should contact Abbie Brearley at Salford PCT by telephone - 0161 212 5643 or by emailing abbie.brearley@salford-pct.nhs.uk.
