How do you choose a home?
The home you choose, should be one that you will be happy in.
There are many important things you need to think about before you make a decision about your home such as, will you have keys to your own room, can you decorate your room to your taste, are there any social activities, do other residents looking happy and well-cared for.
To help you make a decision a list of residential homes can be obtained from the Commission for Social Care Inspection. They inspect homes to produce reports which lets you know how it is being run. A list of residential and nursing homes in Salford can also be found at www.asksid.info
Can you try homes out?
Many homes will let you spend a day and night, to see if you feel that it is the right place for you. You should take the home up on this offer. If you do move in, the first 6 weeks are counted as an introduction and after the 5th week, we will visit to discuss how you are getting along.
How much does residential or nursing care cost?
Residential and nursing care homes charge diffferent amounts. As many are expensive, Community,Health and Social Care and the NHS may help with the costs and only if you need financial help. This is one of the reasons why it is important to contact Community, Health and Social Care before moving into a care home.
If you have contacted us and we agree that a residential or nursing home is the best option for you, then we will work out if we can help you with the costs. You will probably have to pay something towards the cost. Find out more.

If the social worker, you and your carer, agrees that residential or nursing care is the best option for you, they can help you with deciding where to go.
What happens if I don’t contact Community, Health and Social Care?
You will probably have to pay more for living in a residential or nursing home.
