About CPD
CPD is a mixture of different learning activities and approaches which supports the ongoing development of individuals. There is not 'one size fits all' as a wide variety of learning methods can be used.
Therefore, any learning experiences that enable someone to do something that they couldn't do before which are valuable activities, that link learning directly to practice, can be logged for CPD. This could be attending training courses; induction; NVQ's; shadowing another member of staff; taking responsibility for new areas of work; e-learning; distance learning; attending meetings; self-directed activities such as reading or using the internet etc.
As these experiences are completed they should be logged, as this helps individuals to look back and think about what they have learnt; how much they have applied it to their job and what else they may need to learn in the future to continuously develop. In this way, CPD can also be used to set goals; plan how they are going to be achieved and log progress in reaching them.
