Dementia awareness - Managing behaviour
Venue: Pendleton Business Centre, Pendleton College
Duration: 1 day
Entry requirements: Learners must have completed dementia awareness training
Aims:
- To develop and enhance the skills, knowledge and practice of staff to understand the concept of challenging behaviour in dementia
- To enable staff to develop interventions to reduce this in their care environment to provide effective care and management of service users suffering with dementia
Learning outcomes:
Have the knowledge and understanding to:
- Be able to define what is meant by the term 'challenging behaviour' and its implications in the care envrionment, and to the person suffering with the dementia
- Understand and empathise with the possible reasons why the challenging behaviour occurs, such as suicidal thoughts; aggression; cognition difficulties etc
- Identify strategies and interventions which can reduce the incidencies of challenging behaviours which are in line with all legislation (such as the Mental Capacity Act), policies and guidelines and person centred care
- Identify specific strategies and interventions which they will utilise in their own environment and share this within their specific care team
