Dementia awareness
Venue: Pendleton Business Centre, Pendleton College
Duration: 1 day
Aims:
- To raise awareness of the types and causes of dementia and the difficulties which may be caused, with helpful solutions in dealing with the problems.
- To make the carer aware of how to act and speak appropriately, with suggestions as to how to spend time productively with a person who has dementia.
Learning outcomes:
Have the knowledge and understanding to:
- Be able to differentiate between acute and chronic confusion AND between treatable and non-treatable confusion (dementia)
- Have a better understanding of the causes of dementia
- Be able to recognise the problems caused
- Be better equipped to deal with the problems such as
- Wandering
- Aggression
- Inappropriate behaviours
- Hygiene
- Know the importance of body language and ways to reassure
- Have a clear knowledge of the range of activities which can be tried.
