Equality and diversity

Aims:
To develop knowledge and understanding of legislation and policies upholding the rights of individuals, and how to apply this knowledge to the workplace.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of the course, candidates will have an understaning of the importance and how to implement equality and diversity in the workplace:
Equality
- Promoting anti-discriminatory practice
- Upholding rights and choice
- Maintaining confidentiality
- Respecting personal beliefs
- Establishing effective communication
Diversity
- The concepts of individuality and identity
- How to uphold both in care environment- choice, participation and empowerment
- How Stereotyping and labelling can affect delivery of care
- Discrimination – different forms
- How to examine own attitudes and challenge discriminatory practice in appropriate way
Knowledge of legislation and policies which underpin all of the above.
