Fire Awareness - delivered by Tony Smith or Gary Thomas from Greater Manchester Fire Service - Salford Borough Community Safety

  • Causes of fire
  • Fire prevention
  • Fire plans and escape routes
  • Free smoke alarms
  • Protection from fire for smokers with reduced mobility or those who are bed-fast
  • Fire resistant bedding
  • Free risk assessments

Diabetes - delivered by Jean Taylor, Salford Primary Care Trust

  • What is diabetes
  • Basic overview of the affects of glucose and insulin
  • Effects of diabetes on the body
  • Treatments
  • Diet, exercise, tablets and effects of insulin injections
  • Safety and awareness
  • High and low blood glucose - how it is recognised and what can be done to help

Palliative Care - delivered by Cath Byrne, Salford Royal Hospitals NHS Foundation and Salford PCT

  • Main elements of palliative care
  • Needs of those who are terminally ill
  • Improving communication skills with the terminally ill
  • Overview of end of life care
  • Services available in Salford
