Can I make nominations for training over the phone?
No. Nominations will not be accepted under any circumstances via the phone. Nominations should be made using the guidelines on this website.
If I have completed a nomination form for a training event or NVQ Award and submitted it/posted it back to the Staff Development Section does it mean my employees have got the places/dates/training I have requested?
No. Places are allocated as fairly as possible using the Staff Development Section procedures. You will be notified if your employees have secured a training event as you will receive joining instructions for them. Please note that the joining instructions may be sent out in advance of the event and therefore it will be the employees manager’s responsibility to make necessary arrangements and notify their employees.
If no joining instructions are received this means your employees haven’t got a place on the training event you requested. Their details will then be added to the Staff Development Section waiting list and they may be allocated places should they become available.
What should I do if I have nominated a candidate for a short course and it is the same day as their NVQ workshop?
NVQ awards always take priority therefore your candidate should attend the NVQ workshop. Make sure you inform the short course organiser of the situation and request an alternative date.
Why do I have to sign a training agreement on behalf of my employee?
Training agreements apply to NVQ levels 3, 4 and Registered Managers Awards. The partnership currently sources funding to finance these awards at no cost to care providers or candidates. If candidates fail to submit work, withdraw from the award or do not meet requirements the partnership will need to recoup the cost of the award from the candidates organisation.
If I know my employee can't attend a training course that they have been nominated for who should I inform?
Please contact the Staff Development Section admin team on 603 4185 to notify them immediately, so they can ensure that the place is reallocated. Alternatively if it is an NVQ award please contact your employees Assessor directly so they don’t make any unnecessary journey’s. If the Assessor isn’t contactable please contact the Staff Development Section admin team and they will put you through to the relevant Staff Development Co-ordinator responsible for the award.
Please note that it is not acceptable to swap employees’ names on a course, any changes to candidates will be made by the Staff Development section.
Once it has been confirmed that my employee has a place on a training course what should I do?
As soon as a place on training has been confirmed cover should be arranged to ensure that your employees are taken off the rota. They should be given full details of the training objectives, time, date and venue.
Training should always be a high priority. Please note it is not best practice to take a member of staff off training activities to cover for sickness.
