Investors in People

Background
Over the past 15 years, independent research has consistently shown that the Investors in People Standard provides real business benefits to organisations of all sizes and across all sectors.
Investors in People (IiP) is a nationally recognised quality standard that sets out a level of best practice for improving an organisations performance through its people.
IiP provides a flexible framework, which any organisation (no matter what size) can work with. It is based on the business improvement cycle:
Plan
Developing strategies to improve the performance of the organisation through people
Do
Taking action to improve performance of an organisation through its people
Review
Evaluation of the impact on performance of the organisation
and is underpinned by 10 best practice indicators which organisations must provide evidence against during a formal assessment, in order to gain accreditation to the standard.
IiP UK have recently launched 'Investors in People Interactive' which is a website providing advice on key business issues along with good practice examples and downloads, and includes extensive guidance for organisations working towards recognition with the Investors in People Standard.
Investors in People 'Build a Better Business' programme
The Salford Care Training Partnership has been working in collaboration with Business Support Solutions (formerly Chamber Link), to enable Independent Sector care providers to access organisational development opportunities, one of which is a series of workshops entitled ‘Build a Better Business’ (BABB). This programme has been open to partnership members annually since 2005
BABB was created by Business Support Solutions to provide organisations with a best practice management framework and techniques to promote continuous improvement. The workshops are aimed at owners and managers, and have a strong connection to the Investors in People standard themes and principles:
- Business planning
- Finance
- Employment law
- Marketing
- Leadership for results
- Managing performance
- Bringing it all together
Throughout the programme organisations will have support from a specialist IiP advisor from Business Support Solutions, who will assist them to create an action plan for achievement of IiP.
As well as Salford, partnerships in the following local authorities in the North West are involved with Build a Better Business:
- Trafford
- Warrington
- Rochdale
