Travel and transport

Older people and disabled people can benefit from various schemes to make it easier and more affordable to travel across the region and further afield.

Disabled drivers and passengers

Blue badge holders can park in disabled parking bays and some other restricted areas. You can apply for a blue badge if you are disabled or have severe and long term walking difficulties.

The Motability scheme can help with the costs of adapting a vehicle, depending on any benefits that you receive.

Public transport

GMPTE travel passes let older people (aged 60 years or more) and disabled people travel for free on buses, trains and the Metro between 9.30am and midnight on weekdays and at weekends and bank holidays. Travel passes also mean reduced fares at other times.

Ring and Ride buses offer a door to door service and are available to anyone who has difficulty using other public transport. You must register before using the service and then book a day in advance when you want to use a bus.

GMPTE travel vouchers can be used by people who are can't use other public transport. Vouchers can be used to help pay for taxis and other accessible transport.

Community Transport provides accessible transport in the east of the city and also runs a furniture project - collecting and recycling reasonable quality furniture to benefit households in need.

Voluntary groups can hire Salford City Council's accessible buses and drivers at weekends and some evenings.
