Empty properties

Salford City Council's Enforcement Team works to resolve the issues behind a home being left empty so it may be brought back into use. If there is a home in your neighbourhood that has been left vacant and you are concerned about it, we want to know about it.
The team works to reduce the number of empty privately owned properties by:
- Responding to enquiries and complaints from local residents about empty properties
- Providing advice and support to the owners of empty properties with the aim of returning the properties to use
Can you help us?
We need to hear from you to find owners of empty properties across the city. See a list of properties.
The Enforcement Team can also provide owners of empty properties with details of other parts of the council and external agencies that may be able to offer them advice and assistance including:
- The Landlord Accreditation Scheme - this scheme provides support to existing and prospective landlords
- Local regeneration teams
- Accredited managing agents for landlords
- The council’s Listed Contractors Scheme
- Private developers interested in buying empty properties in various areas and conditions
If the owner of an empty property does not work with the council or makes insufficient effort to return a property to use, the council may be left with no option but to take formal enforcement action against them.
Such action may include:
- Enforced Sale
- Compulsory purchase order
- Demolition
If you are concerned about an empty property in your area and you wish to report it, you can call the Empty Property Hotline or fill in an application form.
