Sheltered housing

Sheltered accommodation is available to anybody over 55 who wants to continue to live an independent life but would benefit from the support offered by an area warden.

Housing Connections Partnership works with the city council's two housing organisations, City West Housing Trust and Salix Homes, to provide a 24-hour warden service throughout every scheme in Salford.

Sheltered housing can provide support, security and opportunities for social activities, as tenants are able to mix with others and feel part of a wide community within the scheme, if they wish to do so. Regular coffee mornings, games sessions, craft classes, exercise classes and annual events parties are held at many of the schemes. Area wardens support tenants in arranging these activities along with fundraising events and trips out.

The facilities within schemes differ and may include a communal lounge, laundry and gardens.

Sheltered housing is allocated to those on the Salford Home Search register, and includes a simple assessment carried out by staff from the service.

There are other providers of sheltered housing in Salford, the details of which can be found in a downloadable leaflet at the foot of this page.

Customer involvement

We actively encourage tenants to get involved in the process of managing their homes and the services provided within them. We carry a customer survey annually. We also have a suggestion box at each scheme where tenants can post their suggestions and comments confidentially regarding the warden service.

We also have a forum specifically for representatives of sheltered housing and where issues relevant to sheltered tenants can be discussed. If you are a tenants in sheltered housing ask your warden to find out if space is available at the next meeting, or how to put your name down.
