Supported tenancies

What is the Supported Tenancies Service?
Supported Tenancies Service is a Supporting People funded floating support service. This means that we offer housing related support principally to clients within their own homes. It is the aim of the service to enable clients to live independently and to successfully maintain their accommodation. The service is about empowering people to take control of their own lives and to learn the skills necessary to be able to successfully maintain their home

Who do we work with?

  • Clients aged under 18
  • Teenage Parents
  • Women fleeing or at risk of domestic abuse
  • Refugees
  • Offenders and clients at risk of re-offending
  • Clients with drug and alcohol issues

How much will it cost?
The service we provide is completely free of charge

What type of support do we provide?
The type of support given will depend on the needs of an individual client, but could include:

  • Assistance in applying for benefits, advice on budgeting and maximizing your income
  • Support settling into your new home, contacting utility suppliers, managing your home, and talking to your housing provider about issues such as repairs and rent
  • Advice on furnishing your home
  • Assistance in managing rent arrears or other debts
  • Support accessing medical and specialist services, training, education, and leisure activities
  • Support with liaising with other  agencies
  • Evening out of hours appointments can be arranged if required

How does someone access support?
We deal with clients who have been referred to us from agencies such as:

  • Housing advice and support services
  • Salix Homes
  • New Prospect
  • Probation officers
  • Healthcare professionals
  • Teenage pregnancy support workers
  • Refugee action
  • Salford drug service

Where a professional worker is involved we ask that they complete a referral form on a client’s behalf, but clients can also refer themselves for support. A  referral can be made by contacting the appropriate telephone numbers listed, writing to request a referral form or calling into the office to speak to a supported tenancy officer.

What happens next?

  • If you meet our criteria for support, once a referral has been received an interview will be arranged with a supported tenancies officer. A support assessment interview will then be arranged to obtain and provide more information.
  • The support assessment interview will normally be at a convenient city council, Salix Homes or New Prospect office; however we can make other arrangements to suit you.
  • Once the support assessment interview has been completed we will contact you and the agency who referred you for support to let you know what support we can offer and the next steps.
  • If we cannot offer you support, we will explain our decision and then direct you to another support service that may be better placed to support and assist you.
  • If we agree to support you, we will agree a support plan with you. Supported tenancy officers are drawn from a variety of professional backgrounds and are experienced at tailoring the support provided around your needs. The support plan is an agreement between you and the service to work together towards identified outcomes, and progress is reviewed regularly to make sure that sufficient support is being provided.
  • All the information you give to supported tenancy officers is treated in line with our confidentiality statement.
