Broughton Green

Planned to provide approximately 700 new homes over the next seven years, Broughton Green is being heralded as a UK-wide benchmark, setting the standard for the future of residential development in suburban areas.

A vibrant new community for the future

Broughton Green is the creation of a new community development through the regeneration of a 30-acre site in Higher Broughton, Salford.

As one of the first community regeneration programmes to take shape in Salford, Broughton Green is located off Bury New Road, only two miles from Manchester City Centre. Costing £120m to regenerate the area, it is one of the most exciting projects taking place in the North West of England, proposing to establish a sustainable new community with a wide range of mixed tenure homes, intertwined with comprehensive community facilities and services.

The design ethos of the scheme is to develop it in “homezones” placing greater importance on people and the creation of communities. The focal point of the design is a central public open space, which generates an opportunity for a high level of interaction between neighbours.

Over the next seven years, Broughton Green will provide approximately 700 new homes, around one third of which will be ‘affordable’, ranging from one bedroom apartments to seven bedroom houses, whilst also enhancing the shopping, sports and recreational facilities in the area.

Overall, it is heralding a new beginning for the area, brought to fruition by an innovative development partnership; a unique collaboration of public and private sector partners including the Royal Bank of Scotland, national regeneration specialists Inpartnership and City Spirit, along with Salford City Council. Salix Homes, Salford's regeneration ALMO will deliver the operational programme.

Delivering high quality new homes

Broughton Green revisits the basic principles of residential design, and is combining the best of the past with the needs of the future to create a superb range of new homes.

Delivering low maintenance, energy efficient homes without compromising on quality, the designs incorporate high specification fixtures and fittings, multiple en suite bathroom facilities, as well as open plan living space and flexible room layouts to embrace modern lifestyles. What’s more, the car-free residential streets will promote a friendly, interactive neighbourhood and the open spaces will give children the freedom to play, whilst being so close to home.

Targeting local families who are looking for a better quality of life with the provision of spacious new houses, Broughton Green also has the ability to accommodate first time buyers and downsizers with its range of modern apartments.

The first phase of the project won the Best Overall Development title at the Manchester Evening News Property Awards in 2000.
