Renewal Areas

Salford City Council declared renewal areas within the Weaste and Eccles New Road corridor areas on 2 April 2003, in line with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

Weaste

The Weaste Renewal Area consists of the land and buildings within the area bordered by: Weaste Lane to the East, Edward Avenue and the rear of New Cross Street to the North, the Cricket Ground and Tootal Drive to the West and the M602 motorway to the South.

The council is operating a comprehensive programme of regeneration works based on the results of extensive community consultation.

Eccles New Road corridor

The Renewal Area consists of land and buildings within the area bordered by: Kirkham Street and Dolby Street to the East, the M602 motorway to the North, Bolivia Street to the West and Eccles New Road, Borough Road and Kintyre Avenue to the South.

The council is operating a comprehensive programme of regeneration works based on the results of extensive community consultation. The council is progressing initiatives to improve housing and environmental in this area and ntends to conduct further necessary work over the coming months.

The council has investigated the appropriateness of declaring a number of clearance areas for demolition of some areas of housing. Two separate clearance areas were declared one in Bridson St and another in Nelson St. Public Inquiries for these two clearance areas were held on Tuesday, 9th May 2006 for Nelson St and on Tuesday, 16th May 2006 for Bridson St.

Both clearance areas have now been confirmed and planning permission for demolition has been granted.

Private investment is underway at the Old Bus Depot, M50 1FB site on Eccles New Road/Hesssel Street, this site faces the tram stop adjacent Weaste Road. This site is being developed into one eight storey and one six storey block containing 200 apartments (one and two bedrooms), the agent and owners details can be found on the link below.
