Adoption & Fostering

Salford foster carers, Sheila and Bruce

There is a real need for more foster carers and adoptive parents in Salford and we are certain that there are plenty of people out there who have got what it takes.

Children who are placed with loving foster carers and adoptive parents really blossom and prosper and it is very rewarding to see the results.

Are you thinking about fostering?

We are keen to speak to people who are interested in fostering. More than ever, we need to recruit foster carers of all ages but particularly for older children.

As well as short term and long term fostering, we have specialist salaried schemes such as 3D and Intensive for children with particularly complex needs.

If you have an interest in fostering and would like more information, please follow the links on this page or phone us on 0161 799 1268 for an information pack or informal discussion.

We'd like to hear from you!

Forthcoming adoption open meetings

Salford places up to 35 children a year in adoptive families, but we still have more children waiting for the right family to come along.  We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you can adopt a family group of 2 or more, or children over 6 years of age.

Ideally we would like children to live in families that reflect their cultural and racial background, but there are not enough black families for black children. So again if you can help we'd like to hear from you.

Open meeting dates for the next twelve months:

Wednesday 19 November 2008

Wednesday 21 January 2009

Wednesday 1 April 2009

Wednesday 10 June 2009

Come along and find out more about adoption, meet the team and hear about personal experiences from our adoptive parents. It helps us plan the meeting if we know how many people to expect so please phone us on 0161 799 1268 or email us at family.recruitment@salford.gov.uk for details of the venue.

You could foster a child

"A good foster carer takes the time to find out about me, says kind things and makes me laugh, but also knows when I want to cry."
Lisa (age 9)

If you have time to give and time to care you could be a foster carer. You can be married or single, young or old, employed or unemployed, straight or gay, from any race, culture or background.

The only thing that makes foster carers different is how much they care.

They care enough to open their hearts and their homes to kids who need help - for a day, a week, a month or even years.

Adopters come in all shapes and sizes. We value the fact that everyone is different.

"When I was adopted I felt scared at first but now I feel happy."
Sarah (age 12)

We are looking for individual carers or couples from all cultural, racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds to care for children of all ages. We particularly want to talk to people who are interested in caring for children aged 5-10 years, particularly boys and family groups.
