Planning policy

Planning Policy documents set the framework for planning within the city.
Understanding the plan making process
Urban Forum with assistance from the Planning Aid Service have produced a non-technical "Handy Guide" to the planning system in England. This explains the different types of planning policy documents, the process for producing these documents and their role within the planning process and is an excellent introduction to planning for those with little or no knowledge of planning. The guide can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.
Regional Spatial Strategy
Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) which is prepared by 4NW and the Secretary of State, forms part of the planning framework for the city. The new RSS was published on 30th September 2008 and the is available through the link above.
A partial review of this new version of the RSS has already commenced, focusing on gypsies and travellers, travelling showpeople and regional parking standards. The initial work on this is being led by 4NW.
Local Development Framework
The most recently produced policy documents form part of the Local Development Framework (LDF) and can be accessed through these pages. These include the Core Strategy, other Development Plan Documents, the Statement of Community Involvement and Supplementary Planning Documents. Information on all the documents being produced is set out in the Local Development Scheme.
