Salford Central Planning Guidance

Front Cover

A Development Framework is currently being prepared for the Salford Central area, which is being led by Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company (URC).

The Development Framework will be a detailed masterplan and implementation strategy to guide the future development of the area. The Framework is key to ensuring that future development delivers real benefits for the area and creates an attractive and vibrant place that meets the needs of residents and businesses.

The draft Development Framework was subject to public consultation between 13 May and 3 June 2008 and a wide range of consultation events and activities took place within this period. All comments and representations submitted on the draft Development Framework will be considered prior to its finalisation and adoption. The version of the draft Development Framework which was issued for public consultation can be viewed on Central Salford URC’s website.

The city council has prepared Planning Guidance for the Salford Central area to facilitate the comprehensive regeneration of this important area of the city of Salford and the Regional Centre, to help diversify its economic base and bring in new activity. The transformation will create a distinctive new part of the city centre, with new high quality commercial and residential properties and leisure uses, new urban environments, dramatic public spaces and new connections to the heart of the city centre. The area covered by the Planning Guidance extends to 50.4 hectares and is focused around the Chapel Street and Salford Central Station area, including the Islington, Adelphi and Middlewood areas.

The Guidance establishes the framework and policies which the city council as Local Planning Authority will use as a material consideration in determining applications for planning permission and other matters in the Salford Central area. The document has been prepared as a non statutory planning document, but lies clearly within the planning policy framework established by Regional Spatial Strategy and the city of Salford Unitary Development Plan.

Public consultation

The draft Planning Guidance was subject to a period of public consultation between 2 November and 13 December 2007. All comments received within the consultation period were taken into consideration, and the Guidance was amended where appropriate. A summary of all representations made during the consultation period, together with the Council’s response can be downloaded below.
