Eccles

Eccles Community Committee area

There are a number of key regeneration projects in the Eccles Community Committee area:

  • Eccles is one of the five areas included in the Salford West Strategic Regeneration Framework and Action Plan. The framework will drive investment across the area for the next 20 years, influencing public and private sector investment, attracting new investment to the area. Actions include: improving the accessibility of the Bridgewater Canal, developing the town centre offer, creating satellite employment destinations with value for money office accommodation and developing new health facilities.
  • The new Eccles £10.7 million Gateway Community and Health Centre will open in November 2008.
  • The new £20 million Magistrates Court and Justice Centre in Eccles town centre will be completed in 2012. Work is due to start on the car park in 2009 and the courts and offices in 2010.
  • Continuing developer interest in building new office, leisure and residential buildings, for example the new Centenary House development near to Eccles Town Centre.
  • The Liverpool Road Corridor Strategy is a key strategy document setting out proposals for the future of the corridor, which is an important transport route from Cadishead to Manchester. The strategy will deliver a detailed action plan for the next three years with a broader investment framework beyond that.
  • Salford Royal Hospital, in the nearby Claremont and Weaste area, is undergoing a £135 million PFI contract and further £55 million modernisation investment programme. The investment will radically transform the site into an innovative high quality teaching hospital with excellent medical and patient facilities. Work is due for completion in 2012.
