SPOTLIGHT
Salford is under the SPOTLIGHT!
SPOTLIGHT is a new method of helping public services and communities in Salford to deliver together on key concerns for the city's people, families and communities - concerns like crime, unemployment and low skills that can affect people over many generations.
Why do we need SPOTLIGHT?
Salford is changing rapidly and has a bright future. But regenerating the city definitely isn't just about new buildings - it's essential to give Salford residents a better chance to live happy, healthy lives. We need a new way of making sure we tackle some of the city's issues together and as a matter of urgency.
Funding a few extra projects here and there will not change things enough. SPOTLIGHT is a new approach to community regeneration and will enable us to get the whole team - services and communities - working together to make a lasting difference.
What is SPOTLIGHT?
SPOTLIGHT involves research and consultation to really give us an in depth understanding of the issue and how it affects communities. Then we look at what we all do now to tackle the issue and how we can improve this by working together. At the end of this process, which is very intensive and only takes six weeks, the SPOTLIGHT team produce an action plan of improvements to be made in the short, medium and long term.
Where is SPOTLIGHT taking place?
SPOTLIGHT has been tested out in four areas of the city, each focusing on a different theme:
Charlestown and Lower Kersal, looking at helping young people who aren't in education, employment or training
Ordsall and Langworthy, looking at making the environment safe, clean and green
East Salford, looking at worklessness
Little Hulton, looking at helping lone parents into work
