Steve Newton
Steve Newton has lived all over the country and had never heard of Salford until he saw an environmental health course advertised at the city's University. While on the course, he spent all his holidays on work experience with the City Council, and has now worked here full time for two years.
In one episode of Life of Grime, Steve is called out on the Emergency Call Out Service (ECOS) to track down a smell causing problems for a couple suffering health problems with asthma.
He had to spend time tracking down the smell, call the Fire Brigade to break into a garage to locate a car that was leaking petrol and make it safe, and then call an ambulance to take the couple to hospital. Five hours later he was on his way home saying "It's all in a day's work."
Steve loves the job - even the occasional unsocial hours - and thoroughly enjoyed the filming.
