Why are we changing the recycling service?
The new service will allow us to provide a better recycling service for the people of Salford.
- We can accept more materials, therefore freeing up more space in your general waste bin.
- As you will received two new bins for recyclables this means you have more space compared to the old scheme.
- Your wheeled bins will be easier to pull and a lid will stop wind and rain getting to your recyclables.
The new service will increase recycling in the city. This is essential because:
- As a nation we are running out of landfill space;
- We are also faced with ever increasing European targets to increase the amount of waste we recycle;
- Landfill taxes are rising, so it is becoming increasingly expensive to bury our rubbish;
- Increasing recycling levels will help to reduce Salford’s carbon footprint and will help to tackle climate change;
- Recyclable waste is a valuable resource, that can be re-used;
- Other European countries recycle much more of their waste than the U.K. manages – if they can do it, we can too!
