Casualty reduction

There are national targets associated with road safety, which relate to the number of people killed or seriously injured (KSI) in road traffic collisions which are to be reached by 2010.
The targets are:
Reduce the number of child KSI’s by 50%
Reduce the number of all KSI’s by 40%
Reduce the number of slight injuries by 10%
Salford’s performance in these categories is good, with targets being met year on year. In 2005 there were 85 KSI’s and 1010 slight injuries. But there are still too many deaths and injuries on the road. The council’s Travel Plan will contribute towards reducing deaths and injuries.
