How to report an abandoned vehicle

Do you have an unwanted car that you wish to dispose of?

It is the responsibility of the council to deal with, and provide, an abandoned vehicle service within the confines of the city of Salford.

The procedure dictates that only reports of vehicles that appear to be abandoned received from Greater Manchester Police are regarded as abandoned, and consequently anyone wishing to report an abandoned vehicle should contact Greater Manchester Police (details below) in the first instance.

Greater Manchester Police has overall responsibility for dealing with and processing all reports of abandoned vehicles throughout Salford and, using approved GMP vehicle contractors, they will ensure that reported vehicles are off the streets within 24 hours.

Abandoned vehicles are removed under Section 99 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act of 1984 and regulations 3 and 4 of the Removal & Disposal of Vehicles Regulations of 1986 in conjunction with the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act  1978 and the Crime and Disorder Act, Section 17.

Do you have an unwanted vehicle you wish to dispose of?
If you have an unwanted vehicle or scrap car that you would like to dispose of, please call First Step Trust Salford on 0161-743 0300 for their free 'FST SMaRT' collection service .

First Step Trust is a registered charity and provides a unique working environment in Salford. The organisation realises that sometimes people need help getting back into full time employment and understand that they may need time to adapt to the demands of every day working life.

The trust tailors support and ‘on the job’ training to suit an individual's needs. The workforce can attend part time initially, building up their skills over time, until they are ready to move onto full time employment or training.

It is the organisation's main aim and ambition to get its workforce back into full time work.
