Road Safety Education
Traffic accidents are the largest single cause of death and injury to children.
In 2000, the government published their road safety strategy "Tomorrow's Roads - Safer for Everyone" with a target of 50% reduction in child casualties by 2010. Salford City Council Road Safety team has a number of activities designed for children to help achieve this target.
Reducing the number of accidents on the road involves changing attitudes through a planned and structured programme for children and adults. Road awareness needs to be developed from an early age and continued throughout life.
The Road Safety team offers a service to nurseries and schools in Salford which includes;
- Road Safety projects and lessons tailored to the National Curriculum
- Educational resources for loan
- Guidance on school road safety policies
We aim to educate adults too. Our variety of resources includes information for parents, teachers, drivers and older pedestrians.
