Aims of our Travel Plan

The council recognises that single occupancy car usage during peak periods is a major contributor to traffic congestion. We do, however, recognise that no one solution will suit every individual and that for some car usage is the only viable choice at the present time.
The main aim of the Travel Plan is to both encourage council staff to use environmentally sustainable modes of transport wherever possible and to provide a model of employer good practice to local businesses and organisations within Salford.
The following are priorities:
To promote alternative sustainable modes of transport e.g. walking, cycling and public transport
To reduce the need to travel through the use of new technology such as teleconferencing and modern working practices
To raise travel awareness
To reduce pollution by utilising more environmentally acceptable vehicles and improving air quality
To reduce the number of casualties in road traffic collisions
