Travel Plan objectives

- Raise awareness of the implications of all forms of travel on the environment, and the safety and health of individuals
- Develop a better understanding of the travel habits and travel to work arrangements of council staff

- Establish arrangements for publicising the travel plan and maintaining the information as it develops

- Operate a car share scheme for council staff
- Review the arrangements for council staff business mileage (casual and essential)
- By reducing car use the plan will contribute to the reduction in road traffic collisions
- Support work to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in road traffic accidents
- Contribute to the improvement of air quality through the reduction of carbon emissions
- Review and assess local air pollutant levels and compare against national health based air quality standards
- Contribute to the improved health and well being of staff and citizens
- Promote the health benefits of cycling to work
- Reduce the number of staff cars requiring parking spaces
- Reduce the environmental, social and business impacts associated with transport use by raising awareness of transport options.
- Reduce on-street car parking by council staff.
