Here are some answers to some commonly asked questions:
Q: How do I know that my call is not being traced?
A: Crimestoppers cannot use any tracing devices whatsoever including 1471.
Q: What if the number appears on my phone bill?
A: Calls made from a land line or public telephone are free and the number will never appear on your phone bill. Most major mobile network servers have also agreed that calls to Crimestoppers will be free and will not appear on phone bills.
Q: Who am I talking to when I ring Crimestoppers?
A: Your call is received by a trained Crimestoppers call handler who will take down your information and ensure that it is passed on to the police.
Q: What if my mates find out what I’ve done?
A: The only way that anyone will know if you have called Crimestoppers is if you tell them. That’s the way it’s been for almost 20 years since we began. We don’t know who the caller is and, therefore, your information cannot and would not be passed on.
Q: What happens with the information I provide?
A: Theinformation is collalated and passed on to the police who will then thoroughly investigate the information provided. You can also ask to be given a password that will allow you to ring back and follow up the outcome of your call.
