Operation Treacle: Dealing with Halloween and Bonfire night nuisance
This operation was launched to tackle nuisance over Halloween and Bonfire Night and resulted in a drop in incidents.
Criminal damage was also cut by 43% and anti-social behaviour by 13% compared to the previous year. In the run of this partnership operation truancy sweeps were run, the police ran high-visibility patrols and worked closely with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Test purchases were also carried out with Trading Standards at off-licences and firework retailers.
Officers made 10 arrests, issued eight fixed penalty notices and carried out more than 260 stop checks.
They also confiscated 78 fireworks and 43 bottles and cans of alcohol from underage drinkers.
Inspector Andrea Jones of Salford Police said: “These excellent results reflect the hard work of our officers during the Halloween and Bonfire Night period.
“We tend to see an increase in criminal damage and anti-social behaviour around this time of year, and the fact that we’ve reduced the number of incidents should greatly reassure residents across the city.”
