Reduction of anti-social behaviour on buses

Between October 2006 and September 2007, there was a 31% reduction in incidents of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour on the city’s buses, compared with figures for the previous year and a 26% reduction in criminal damage to bus shelters.

Incidents on school buses also came down by 61%, leading to Salford having the fourth fewest recorded incidents out of the Greater Manchester authorities.

One of the initiatives leading to an improved bus journey is the installation of CCTV cameras in bus shelters most affected by criminal damage. This scheme was trialled in Salford before being introduced elsewhere in Greater Manchester. Bus operators have also been improving CCTV on board buses, leading to most services across the city now being included.
