Hate Crime
What is hate crime?
Hate crime is a criminal offence committed against a person or property that is motivated by an offenders hatred of someone because of their race, colour, ethnic origin, nationality, national origin, religion, gender identity or disability.
Hate crime can take many forms including:
- physical attacks to you and/or your property
- offensive graffiti
- arson
- the threat of attack
- offensive letters
- telephone calls
- groups hanging around to intimidate you and your family
- verbal abuse or insults
- offensive leaflets and posters
- gestures and bullying at or in the workplace.
