Reporting a hate crime
You can report any form of hate crime anonymously by calling crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, telephone 999.
Report a hate crime online in confidence and we will contact you as quickly as possible.
If you prefer, you can report a hate crime at your local police station or telephone their non-emergency reporting number on (0161) 872 5050.
You can also obtain a copy of the True Visions Self Reporting Form from public places, e.g. doctors surgeries, libraries and community centres etc.
The Salford Multi-Agency Hate Crime Reporting Form is also available from receptions like housing offices and Community & Social Services, where trained staff will assist in completing the form.
A hate crime is any incident committed against a person or property that is motivated by the offender's hatred or dislike of a person or group of people because of their race, religion, gender, disability or sexual orientation.
Hate crime can take many forms - physical attacks, verbal abuse, damage to property, offensive letters and leaflets, as well as neighbour disputes, threats, abusive gestures, arson and graffiti.
You may have heard some people say that you should always tell the police or other reporting centres about hate crime, even if you think that they can't do anything. That's true, but it's not just about statistics. Both police officers and other agency representatives working across Salford have been successful in gaining evidence against offenders by putting together information given by a range of victims.
