Youth Offending Team

If you or someone you know is already involved in criminal or anti-social behaviour and wants to stop, or are in danger of becoming involved, we may be able to help you.

We will help to reduce children and young people offending by:

  • ensuring that young people accused of breaking the law have the matter dealt with quickly
  • showing young offenders the consequences of their offending - such as meeting their victims
  • getting involved with young people and working with them on the particular issues which make them likely to offend. This could be as simple as finding a sport or leisure activity which will divert the young person’s attention away from crime
  • making sure that punishments are proportionate to the seriousness and persistence of the offending
  • encouraging offenders to repay their victims - perhaps by working for the victim, doing odd-jobs around the home or doing the garden
  • developing better parenting skills and re-enforcing the responsibilities of parents

Could you make a difference?

The Salford Youth Offending Team is currently recruiting and training volunteers to work with young people who are involved in or at risk of offending behaviour.  The Youth Offending Team have the following opportunities available throughout the year:

  • Mediators
  • Referral Panel Member
  • Mentoring
  • Appropriate Adult Scheme

The Youth Offending Team is made up of social workers, probation officers, a health worker, a police officer, an education worker and a drug and connections worker.
