Welcome to the pages for the Ordsall and Langworthy neighbourhood area. Here you will find information about the neighbourhood, as well as current news, useful contacts, and opportunities for getting involved.

About the area

The area is made up of two wards: Ordsall, and Langworthy. For statistical information on these wards see our ward profiles page.

The Ordsall and Langworthy Community Committee Area forms the southern most part of Salford’s inner city bounded by the Manchester Ship Canal on two sides. It incorporates Salford Quays and contains high quality housing and leisure developments.

The rest of the Ordsall area is mainly social housing, much of which has seen major redevelopment over the last 10 years.  The main Ordsall estate currently sees the construction of new family housing, this being achieved through a partnership between the city council and LPC Living, a local development company.

The Seedley and Langworthy Programme, located in Langworthy Ward, is designated as one of Salford’s Areas of Major Change and is a key priority for investment in the city. The SRB5 programme which ran from 1999-2006, covered an area which comprises approximately 3,200 households.

Salford Quays is an important landmark site in the area which includes the Lowry, an international arts centre. Other facilities in Ordsall and Langworthy include two recreation centres, The Watersports Centre and two municipal parks.

There are important heritage sites in the area. Ordsall Hall is a Tudor building and is Salford’s only grade I listed building and is currently a museum.. Salford Lads Club was 100 years old in 2003 and has recently applied for listed status.

Langworthy Cornerstone situated on Langworthy Road is a purpose built, health and well-being and community resource centre.  In Ordsall the Neighbourhood Building is a multi-purpose community building.

There are two major youth initiatives happening in the area; SAYO in Ordsall and SPARKY in Langworthy. These programmes offer young people a wide range of sports and art activities.

In Langworthy traditional terrace houses are being converted into modern accommodation for local residents and for those wishing to move into the area.

The area has seen a huge increase in buildings and population recently due to the construction of large numbers of apartments and flats.  Ordsall and Langworthy is now considered an attractive area in which to live and invest.
